The Department of Education is going to see some changes after Chancellor David Banks announced on Thursday that the DOE’s top priority is their literacy program.
The program, NYC Reads, was launched this school year and focuses on creating strong readers starting in early childhood via a “creative curriculum.”
The DOE says it will be dissolving the Division of Teaching and Learning into the Division of School Leadership. Banks says this will not reduce staff but will bring education experts closer to districts to implement NYC Reads faster.
