Data released by the Department of Education shows 1 in 9 public school students, or more than 119,000 students, in New York City experienced homelessness.
Department of Education officials say the 2022-2023 school year data was obtained by Advocates for Children of New York. The organization says this trend is not new.
This marks the eighth consecutive year in which more than 100,000 public school students were identified as homeless.
