The latest test scores for some of New York's young students are out, and the city still lags behind much of the state.

Education officials released results of English and math exams given to students in grades 3 through 8 back in April based on the Common Core curriculum that has been adopted by most states to improve college readiness.
The biggest gap was in English with 29.4 percent of city students testing proficient, two points behind the state average. The city fell just one point from the standard when it comes to math.
Mayor Bill de Blasio pointed out that the city still has the best scores out of any urban area in the state, but says there is still a long way to go.
