Elderly, wheelchair-bound man robbed in residential elevator

The robbery happened Thursday, when the 80-year-old man was stopped outside in the area of Avenue C and East 12th Street by a man asking for cigarettes who then followed him into his building.

Video released by police shows a wheelchair-bound elderly man being robbed in an elevator in the East Village.
The robbery happened Thursday, when the 80-year-old man was stopped outside in the area of Avenue C and East 12th Street by a man asking for cigarettes, police say. The man then followed the victim into the lobby of his residential building and into the elevator with him.
The suspect can be seen in the video pressing one of the elevator buttons before pulling out a box cutter that he threatens the victim with, then proceeds to search the victim's pockets, stealing $60 from his wallet and his watch.
Police say the victim was not injured in this incident.
The suspect is described as being between 30 and 40 years old, and was last seen wearing a dark red Under Armour brand baseball hat, black jacket, red sweatshirt and sweatpants, red Nike sneakers and black gloves.
