A 14-year-old girl and her mother spoke exclusively with News 12 after the girl was almost kidnapped on her way home from school.  

The incident happened while the 14-year-old was on her way home from school. The eighth grader says she was walking along the same route she’s taken almost daily for the last two years, when she was approached by a black car.  

A man came out of the car wearing a black ski mask and hoodie under the Bronx River Overpass just after 3 p.m. on Jan. 27. He tried to pull her into the car. When she tried to pull out her phone and call 911, the suspect smacked her phone away - shattering the screen.  

Thankfully she was able to escape the kidnapper’s grip and run back home, but the horrible encounter left her and her mother shaken.  

"It traumatized me. It made me scared," said the 14-year-old. "It makes me more aware that things actually do happen, to look out more."

"[I'm] grateful that she was able to come home and tell her story," said the victim's mother. "I know a lot of kids don't get that chance."

Police say they are investigating the incident, and the mother is advocating for more surveillance cameras to be installed in the West Farms neighborhood.
