A resident at the NYCHA Boulevard Houses is raising safety concerns due to a broken entrance door in her building.

Latoya Druck, who has lived in the building for 15 years, says the broken door lock has turned the lobby into a hangout spot for teenagers and others who don’t live there.

“A lot of the kids come in, and the door is not fixed," said Druck. "They make a big mess in the building, play loud music, and disturb the neighbors.

Druck showed News 12 how the broken lock allows unrestricted access, showing that the door cannot lock properly or secure the building.

She also says the intercom system is out of order, further complicating entry for residents.

To prevent neighbors from getting locked out, Druck has resorted to propping the door open with rubber bands.

However, she says this has only made the building more vulnerable, attracting unwelcome activity.

“There’s a lot of drug use in the other building, and a lot of them come in here, too. They disturb the peace, make a mess in the stairwells, and things like that,” she added.

News 12 reached out to NYCHA for comment.

In a statement, they said, “NYCHA is working with the Boulevard Houses PACT partner team to ensure that these concerns are appropriately addressed.”

Druck has posted signs at the entrance to help ensure residents have access and is holding on to hope that the issues will soon be resolved.
