A video obtained exclusively by News 12 shows a man approaching a 3-year-old boy and ripping a chain off his neck.
The incident took place in an apartment building hallway last week in Morris Heights.
It was captured on a Ring camera on the sixth floor.
Wendy Alonzo, the mother of the toddler, spoke with News 12 about the traumatic experience.
Alonzo says her son was playing with his siblings when the robbery occurred.
She says after the chain was snatched, he screamed out for her.
The mother say the man then ran down the steps, leaving her son terrified and traumatized.
She says this is not the first time her son has been targeted in the same hallway.
Last year, he was also robbed.
Alonzo expressed concern for the safety of others in the building, saying if it can happen to a 3-year-old, it can happen to anyone.
Alonzo said that her children often played in the hallway, but now her son refuses to even go near the door.
The hallway had once felt like a safer alternative to playing outside, but Alonzo no longer feels safe in the building.
