A 51-year-old Bronx woman has been missing for months, and her family is desperate to find her.
Caitlyn Breen is the daughter of 51-year-old Eliza Barbosa. Breen lives in upstate New York and says they spoke at least once a week. She hasn't heard from her mother in months.
After multiple attempts to file a missing person's report, the NYPD officially reported Barbosa missing July 20.
David Sarni, a retired detective and adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, he says one to two detectives typically work on a missing person case at the start. After seven days, the NYPD says it typically hands the case over to the city’s Missing Person's Unit.
Erin Daly-Spano, a missing persons advocate at Hope Alive 845, says in her four years of work she's helped bring 64 missing people home. She wants Eliza Barbosa to be next.
Daly-Spano and Sarni both offered tips for finding missing loved ones:
  • Putting up signs
  • Accessing the missing's social media accounts
  • Contacting friends and family often
  • Posting them on the National Missing Person's Registry
