Thursday marked the 3-year anniversary since 1-year-old Davell Gardner was fatally shot in his stroller, just feet from his home.
Davell, who was only 22 months old when he passed away, was struck with a bullet in the stomach at a family cookout.
Members of his family and close family friends gathered at a tree outside of the family’s home to pray in front of a photo of him. Lay The Guns Out Foundation also took part in the commemoration, putting out balloons and candles in his memory.
“It still hurts to this day,” said Gardner’s cousin. “Every time I look at that tree it just kills me inside. He didn’t even have a chance.”
