A family and Bronx community are searching for answers after they say a well-known and loved man was found unconscious and later died.

Luis "Pinchon" Ramirez was found unconscious June 17 near Jerome Avenue and East 198th Street.

Family members say Ramirez was transported to Montefiore Medical Center in a coma. After suffering a brain aneurysm this past Monday, he died as doctors unsuccessfully tried to save him.

The family says they now fear that foul play was involved in his death. They say Ramirez fell asleep in a van, and the owner woke him up by kicking and punching him. Others say the van owner took Ramirez out and sat him on a chair.

The 57-year-old Ramirez was homeless, but Reyes Ortiz, the owner of a Grand Concourse bodega, took him in about seven years ago. Ortiz says Ramirez was like a brother to him.

Police tell News 12 that there were no signs of trauma when Ramirez was found. The medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death.
