The brother of a man who died after an encounter with police is demanding justice after a new development in the case.
Body-camera video from 2019 shows Allan Feliz stunned by a Taser, beaten and shot after being pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt.
In 2020, an
investigation through the attorney general's office ruled "there is insufficient evidence to establish Sgt. Rivera committed a crime in connection with the death of Mr. Feliz."
Feliz's loved ones now have a glimmer of hope after filing to the Civilian Complaint Review Board. Feliz's family was told after an internal hearing that the NYPD deputy commissioner of trials found Jonathan Rivera guilty and recommended that he be fired immediately. Rivera is now a lieutenant.
"Getting Jonathan Rivera fired it's not going to bring Allan back is just going to help my family understand that there was due process and that we can go outside and not fear for an officer hurting us." said Samy Feliz, Allan Feliz's brother.
Samy Feliz says it's now up to the NYPD to decide Rivera's fate. News 12 reached out to Rivera's attorney for comment and is still waiting to hear back.
