At least six businesses were engulfed in flames and destroyed in a massive fire on Jerome Avenue in University Heights, the FDNY says.
The FDNY says there were no injuries reported in the five-alarm fire. The fire was reported at 8:21 a.m. and placed under control at 1:15 p.m.
During a news conference, FDNY officials say that an illegally parked vehicle blocking a fire hydrant slowed down the operations.
Fire officials say they expect to be at the scene for most of the day.
Some business owners who spoke with News 12 say they have been in the area for years and that it is a heartbreaking scene for them.
During the height of the fire, the MTA said four trains would bypass Burnside Avenue in both directions while the FDNY investigated.
