Fire engulfs seven-story building on East 183rd Street
A fire engulfed a seven-story building in East 183rd Street Thursday morning.
Firefighters says just before 9 a.m., they received an emergency call about a fire on East 183rd Street. Twenty units responded to the scene with over 80 members fighting the fire.
The fire broke out on the top floor of the building. Fire officials say there are no injuries at this time, but neighbor Rahem Scott said his neighbor was stuck inside the burning building.
"It was the next-door neighbor that couldn't get out because of the smoke, and they told her the best thing to do is stay inside because the fire would not travel to her apartment as long as the door was closed," Scott explained.
The scene is still active although the smoke and flames are no longer underway. The cause of the fire at this point is unknown.
