It's Fire
Prevention Week, and the New Rochelle Fire Department is focusing on cooking
fires this year.
According
to the National Fire Protection Association, nearly half of home fires between 2012 and 2016 is caused
by cooking and it ranks second in deadly fires.
Every year, it costs homeowners nearly $1.1 billion
just in property damage.
New Rochelle Fire Chief Andrew Sandor says the most
common reason cooking fires get out of control so quickly is because of
inattention.
Fire prevention week starts Sunday and runs through
Saturday.
