Bronx families are without a home following a devastating overnight fire in a Tremont apartment.
According to the FDNY, the fire started on the third floor of the building at 2018 Monterey Ave. The smoke and flames quickly spread to the fourth floor of the building and firefighters had to destroy everything in their path to ensure they were extinguished.
"They basically were breaking holes in the walls trying to see if the fire was spreading through the walls," said Regina Anderson, a resident of the building. "My niece's bedroom basically has no walls at all. All you see is just the beams."
FDNY officials say no one was injured in the fire. The American Red Cross says they've assisted six households with emergency financial assistance.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
A family from the apartment underneath where the fire began has started a GoFundme to raise money to get back on their feet and provide aid to the family in the apartment where the fire began.
