Thousands of incoming freshmen at Fordham University are moving into their dorms this weekend and one group of students is settling into college life by helping the environment.
The students are a part of a long-standing university tradition known as the "urban plunge." This community service program introduces incoming students to the Bronx by encouraging them to volunteer in the community so they can learn about their new urban environment outside of campus.

The student group and members of the Bronx River Alliance collected discarded trash, which will later be analyzed to find out where it is coming from.

The Bronx River Alliance has removed over 3 tons of garbage from the river since 2016. They say everyone can do their part to keep local waterways clean.
