A former Washingtonville High School student who planned a Columbine-style shooting was sentenced Thursday, three years after he was charged.
Brendan Vaughan, 20, was sentenced to five years in prison for making threats of deadly violence at the school on social media. He was also found with a hit list.
Laura Dowling-Link, the mother of one of Vaughan's intended victims, says she's relieved justice has been served.
"The anxiety level has eased tremendously for me and my children, my family and the community," she said. "I feel now that it's out there and everyone knows that the sentencing was just, I just think there's this sense of calm."
Vaughan's sentence includes post-release supervision for three years.
