A Sickledex test takes no more than three minutes, and it can help change the future of a family.
Free sickle-cell testing was held Thursday at a health fair sponsored by the Morris Heights Health Center, Bronx Lebanon Hosptial and Bronx Scan.
Hamila Hayward suffers from the chronic disease and made it her life's work to reduce the number of children born with sickle-cell.
"The only way to know is to have a blood test called a 'hemoglobin electrophoresis.' When you go to your doctor, they do not test for this. It is a special test that you have to request," she says.
