It’s been more than a year since Bronx resident Andrew Kearse died after being refused medical attention while under custody of the Schenectady Police Department.
Authorities say Kearse died in the back seat of a police car where he was gasping for air and complained repeatedly to officers that he could not breathe.
Reports say that by the time Kearse got to the police station he was unresponsive and taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The nonprofit organization Rise and Resist has been working with the Kearse’s wife to bring justice
The NY attorney general concluded that there is sufficient evidence that shows that a crime had been committed, but a grand jury declined those charges.
Kearse’s wife, Angelique Negroni Kearse, tells News 12 that she is working to pass a law called Andrew’s Law, where if a person in custody cannot breathe or says they need medical attention, then they must help them.
