Famous Bronx DJ Funk Flex teamed up with GrubHub, Grassroots Grocery and Sharing Excess to hand out thousands of pounds of fresh food to the community.
The event took place in Williamsbridge on Tuesday, where 15,000 pounds of fresh produce, 400 hot meals, books and school supplies were handed out to the community for free.
Neighbors came out to enjoy the free music while taking fresh veggies and fruit home with them. Grassroots Grocery says the event is about getting food directly into the heart of the community.
“We want to bring it from the pantry to the people, to make sure that everybody can partake in the food that they so desperately need to feed their families,” said CEO and founder of Grassroots Grocery Dan Zauderer.
