Doctors at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi are now treating pulmonary embolisms in an innovative way with a new tool they say will save lives.

The doctors say the new technology can get to blood clots without requiring the patient to undergo extensive surgery.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi was a part of the Acute Pulmonary Embolism Extraction Trial for around one year, using the Alpha Vac System, also known as the APEX-AV clinical trial. It treated 120 people across the country.

That APEX-AV innovation has treated eight Bronx residents who had blood clots in their arteries and lungs, and doctors say it’ll save many more.
