Heroes Among Us raises money to build Iraq/Afghanistan war memorial at Eisenhower Park
A joint effort between Nassau County and the nonprofit organization Heroes Among Us is raising money to build a memorial for those who fought in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran says the memorial is slated to be built in the fall to mark 20 years since the wars started. Curran noted that more than 7,000 soldiers lost their lives and said that many of the 2.5 million who fought in the wars live in Nassau County.
"Our commitment to veterans is sacred," says Curran. "We have very much to be proud of as Americans."
Curran says Heroes Among Us has already donated $10,000. Anyone who would like to donate can visit the Heroes Among Us website.
The goal is to raise $100,000.
