Several people were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at a Hoboken light rail station Sunday, according to Mayor Emily Jabbour.
Witnesses told News 12 they saw federal agents detaining people near the elevators in the station around 1:30 p.m.
Elected officials and local advocacy groups held an "emergency" meeting Sunday night to inform residents of their rights pertaining to interactions with ICE officers.
News 12 was still working to identify the people who were allegedly detained as of Sunday night.
Jabbour said local police were not notified in advance and did not assist with any federal immigration enforcement.
News 12 reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for comment on the situation but had heard back as of Sunday night.
