Parents filled the streets in Bay Ridge outside of P.S. 264 on Wednesday night as they stood together against a recent alleged bullying incident that led to parents and family members stepping in.

Many concerned parents tell News 12 that parent Ting Duo Lei, who has a 13-year-old son, had no choice but to use self-defense to protect his son after he and another student got into a fistfight.

Lei claims that two days later, 24-year-old Hassan Saab showed up at his doorstep with a metal bat, looking to fight his son.

A close family friend of Lei shared a video with News 12 depicting parts of the commotion. Saab has since been charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, acting in a manner injurious to a child. Police also say that Lei has been charged with assault as well.

Parents at the rally were heard chanting “Justice for Lei,” demanding that Lei’s charges be dropped.

“He is lucky he didn’t die,” said Karlin Chan, a family friend of the Lei family about Lei’s 13-year-old son. “He had a gash on his head… when you are sitting in school, when they are afraid someone is going to hit you in the head… it is not inclusive to learning at all.”

The Department of Education says the fight between the students and the other one involving students’ relatives took place after school and not on school grounds.
