An elevator outage is causing frustration for residents in Hunts Point, where tenants say they have spent the past two weeks climbing multiple flights of stairs.
A tenant on the 900 block of Aldus St. said that living on the upper floors has been difficult, especially given her age and health. She said traveling up and down nearly 60 stairs has taken a toll.
She said she has called Kraus Management but has received little information beyond being told the issue would be addressed.
Kraus Management told News 12 that a fire caused the outage. In a statement, the company said the elevator is out of service due to damage from a small fire that burned electrical lines controlling the system. They said several safety components, including the safety hatch and emergency lighting, must be repaired or replaced before the elevator can return to service.
The company said restoration efforts were also delayed by a Con Edison power outage caused by the recent snowstorm but added that work is underway and they hope to have the elevator back in service next week.
