As bars and restaurants are limited to takeout and delivery, many are closing - and those still open are struggling to keep it that way.
Eric Horowitz, co-owner of the Double Windsor in Brooklyn, says they had to lay off most of their staff, leaving them with three employees.
Adapting to the current environment with a new takeout window, they will also sell boxes of groceries starting this week.
They are hoping bars and restaurants are still allowed to include alcohol in takeout orders after the shutdown is over.
Horowitz says for him it's not making profit that's a priority at the moment. "I worry more about my employees,” said Horowitz. Last month, he created a GoFundMe page and fundraised more than $14,000 for those he and his partners were forced to lay off.
"Times are tough, they're the greatest, they care about this company as much as we do and that's why we're successful,” said Horowitz.
They plan to continue adapting to all the changes in the city so that they can continue to break even and bring their employees back soon.
