An organization celebrating its 50th anniversary is working hard to give financial support to families in need.
Susan George is the executive director of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund. She says the organization helps around 11,000 students with scholarships each year.
"If a family needs help paying tuition, we have many different scholarship opportunities and financial aid opportunities. And we try our best our help every family who wants to go to a Catholic school to make that a possibility," George says.
She says the fund has also worked to help families facing tough times because of the pandemic.
"We have also just offered COVID emergency funding," George says. "We want them to know we are here for them and if they are losing sleep over paying tuition, we want to be there for them.”
With the help of Catholic Charities, the fund has helped some families with food and rent.
The pandemic has been hard on Catholic schools throughout the country, even forcing some to close
George says she is still looking to the future to provide hope.
"We are really hoping that that is behind us, we have had a lot of interest from families who are in public schools where the schools did not go back, so we have a lot of new families applying," she says.
As the demand for scholarships is high, George says they are hoping to keep up.
"We could not do any of this without our donors," she says. "We would hope that you would learn more about Inner-City Scholarship Fund and what we do, and if you are a parent looking for a school for your child, I hope you would consider a neighboring Catholic school."
