Marijuana supporters in Long Beach are asking members of the city council to commit to a timeline to opt into a state law that allows retail cannabis sales.
The city council voted not to opt in for retail sales in 2021.
"The law has passed, it is here," said Anne Flomenhaft. "The question is actually - Do we want to make retail revenue sales off this cannabis? Do we want to allow adults to purchase safe products that directly enriches the city."
Four towns in Suffolk County opted in for cannabis sales. They were Brookhaven, Riverhead, Southampton and Babylon.
All of Nassau County has opted out.
