Many Long Islanders ran around Saturday to pick out last-minute Mother's Day gifts on Saturday.
Michael Peterson, of Hicksville, picked up plants at Hicks Nursery for his mother.
"That's my mom's one passion. The front lawn and the flowers, so always got the nicest flowers on the block. So I kind of stick with it," Peterson said.
"Normally, Mother's Day is our busiest day of the year," said Hicks Nursery Vice President Nate Jackson.
The nation's supply chain problems did not appear to impact the availability of gifts for mom. Sky Nin of Sky Eden Farm in Seaford said his bouquets usually sell out quickly.
"Very, very busy. Every Mother's Day, we come by 9 o'clock. Ten o'clock, every single flower is gone," Nin said.
Procrastinators even jammed the aisles at Thriftway Card and Gift Store in Plainview to pick the perfect Mother's Day card.
"I got her spa gift cards so she can spend the day however she wants and relax," said Lauren Hymowitz, of Old Bethpage.
Another way to treat mom is with sweets. Chocolate roses are popular picks.
"People are at home, so they're calling in orders, they just come by, pick it up, so it's been very busy all week," said Elyse Rosen, of The Sweet Spot Shoppe.
But most agree that the best gift of all is the time spent with mom.
The National Retail Federation estimates the average family will spend $245 on Mother's Day this year, which includes gifts and dinner.
