A man who was born and raised in Bensonhurst and worked the past nearly 38 years in the 70th, 78th, 84th, and 88th precincts, walked out for the very last time Thursday.
Sgt. Richard Erickson’s past and present coworkers, family, friends and so many others cheered him on as he began his retirement.
Erickson says he’s seen the community change so much throughout the years and has worked on many cases.
He tells News 12 he even remembers exactly where he was standing on the roof of the precinct on Sept. 11 as he watched the second plane hit.
He says he has many memories and is grateful for those who have come out to celebrate him and his career.
"I would have been content on just signing out and leaving but the guys that work for me and gals they put this together and I’m grateful for it I’m so happy I did it now,” said Erickson.
As for what’s next? He says he’s going to relax, spend some time with family and when it is safe to do do, some traveling.
