A 48-year-old man was stabbed and killed outside a Brownsville apartment building Wednesday evening, and police say they are still trying to track down the other person involved in the fight.
The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. outside the Langston Hughes Houses on Sutter Avenue. According to a source with the NYPD, several 911 callers reported two men fighting and said at least one of them had a knife.
When officers arrived, they found 48-year-old Kevin Coleman lying on the ground in front of the building with multiple stab wounds. The source says Coleman was unconscious and still holding a knife in his hand when police reached him.
Coleman was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he died a short time later.
Scene video showed blood on the sidewalk and a knife recovered nearby as detectives searched the area.
Neighbors say violence like this has become far too common in the area.
You have to be watching your back all the time. It’s always stabbings and shootings,” said one resident. “We used to have a lot more police presence — now it’s once in a blue.”
No arrests have been made, and investigators are still working to determine what led up to the deadly fight and who else may have been involved.
