Police say a Bronx man was arrested for allegedly attacking an officer inside the Fordham Road subway station.

Sergio Santiago, 41, faces aggravated assault on a police officer and assault charges, accused of hurling an object at an officer Thursday evening, striking the officer in the head and causing a laceration.

Authorities say the officers approached Santiago at the station's mezzanine after identifying him as a person of interest wanted for a stabbing earlier in the day.

The officers chased Santiago for several blocks before losing sight of him.

The injured officer was taken to SBH Health System and is expected to be OK, according to police.
