Family members identified the man as Christopher Gordon, who lives in the building.
Witnesses say they saw him fighting with another man outside the building before he ran to the roof and threatened to jump. They also say Gordon was seen running from police when they arrived to break up the fight.
About an hour later, Gordon was brought down from the building on a stretcher. He was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
