A Mastic Beach man pleaded not guilty Thursday to allegedly raping an underage girl he met on Snapchat.
Renato Oliva Garcia, 22, was arrested Wednesday on accusations he talked to the underaged girl for weeks before agreeing to meet Monday.
Police say the 22-year-old picked up the underaged girl Monday near her home and took her back to his house where he raped her.
Suffolk Police's Chief of Detectives Gerard Gigante says they were called when the girl didn't show up to school.
“It was determined that she left the house to catch the school bus and then came back when the bus lets out, but she never got on the bus. She ended up meeting up with a 22-year-old," says Gigante.
Oliva Garcia pleaded not guilty to first-degree rape and child endangerment charges. The judge set bail at $150,000 cash, $50,000 more than requested by prosecutors.
The public defender representing Olivia Garcia told the judge that his client didn’t know the girl was underage and that he didn’t think he was doing anything illegal.
Oliva Garcia is expected to return to court March 23 and was ordered to stay away from the accuser.
Detectives are now investigating to see if there are any more alleged victims. Anyone who believes they may be a victim can call the Special Victims Section at 631-852-6531.
