Mayor Bill de Blasio weighed in on the race for the White House this weekend with a series of tweets, including one that called GOP frontrunner Donald Trump racist.
The tweets were sent Saturday by de Blasio's verified Twitter account, @BilldeBlasio.
"I didn't realize this was in question. Behaves like a racist, speaks like a racist...of course @RealDonaldTrump is a racist," the mayor's tweet read.
The tweet was in reference to one sent by musician John Legend, which had been directed at one of Donald Trump's sons. Donald Trump Jr. had originally tweeted,"5 students when asked why they were protesting couldn't even answer. The participation medal/micro aggression generation is pretty sad!" In response, John Legend tweeted, "@DonaldJTrumpJr I think they were protesting your racist father. This isn't complicated."
Mayor de Blasio added, "The solution isn't complicated, either. Tax the super rich, reform Wall Street, create good jobs with good wages."
He continued, "The answer to proto-fascism is better democracy. The answer to economic fear and insecurity is actual re-distribution of wealth."
Mayor de Blasio previously endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.
