The mayor is calling for the preservation and expansion of speed cameras near schools.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, along with Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza and others, are calling on the state government to act.
On Thursday, the Assembly and Senate adjourned without agreeing on a deal to renew the law authorizing school zone speed cameras in the city.
All 140 devices around the city will have to be deactivated.
Since the Senate didn't pass annual legislation to extend the school zone camera program, the cameras will apparently be turned off on July 25.
