A crackdown on illegal fireworks is underway from the mayor's office following weeks of complaints in all five boroughs.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has created an Illegal Fireworks Task Force of 40 officers to help track down where the fireworks are being sold in the city and surrounding states.
The mayor also said the FDNY would be launching a public safety campaign and will put out public service announcements across social media on the dangers of illegal fireworks.
Kiru Bernard, of the Longwood section of the Bronx, says fireworks have been keeping her awake and frightened during the evenings.
“It feels like a bomb and sometimes you really don't know what's going on," she told News 12.
