The ongoing battle over a proposed drug rehab center in Throgs Neck has taken another turn, and residents are up in arms.
City Councilmember Mark Gjonaj says Miracle City has applied to establish outpatient services at 2800 Bruckner Blvd.
The New York state Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, or OASAS, confirmed they have received the application and it is currently under review.
Currently, Miracle City operates a counseling center out of a Throgs Neck location. If this application is approved, it could operate as an outpatient substance abuse treatment center.
The community has been vocal about the location since 2017, saying they are concerned since this is a residential neighborhood near a pre-K center and a house of worship.
Gjonaj and state Assemblymember Michael Benedetto previously wrote to OASAS about their concerns, which they hope will help make the residents' case.
Both Benedetto and Gjonaj acknowledge the need for a treatment center, just not at this location.
News 12 reached out to Miracle City for comment and is waiting to hear back.
