The Legal Aid Society’s community justice unit is providing services for residents across New York City through their Community Justice Mobile Unit.
The mobile bus provides resources on wheels to New Yorkers, providing free legal services that can help, defend, and educate residents prior to them being in contact with the criminal legal system.
"As we know, community members often do not know when they have legal issues where to go for help or if there is even help for them,” said Anthony Posada of the Legal Aid Society. “And so we aim to educate them and advocate for them, spread awareness, and let them know that we're here."
The personal and mobile approach to legal aid came after Hurricane Sandy, and staff members say the services are needed now more than ever.
The organization says their goal is to visit every borough from now through the summer.
