A fascinating exhibit making its debut in New York State at the Katonah Museum of Art makes for a wonderful afternoon and a perfect Road Trip: Close to Home.

The museum’s new exhibit is of modern art using ancient technique. “Hands and Earth: Perspectives on Japanese Contemporary Ceramics” looks at 100 years of Japanese ceramics and is the largest collection in the United States.  "Every piece is a masterpiece in and of itself," says Katonah Museum of Art Executive Director Michael Gitlitz.

Gitlitz says each work has its own story, "Recreating essentially the feeling of nature. Of waves. Of wind."

The museum has also constructed a special room within one of its galleries just to show just one painting – a work by artist Mark Rothko.  "We feel like this is the place to come and recharge,” says Gitlitz.

If viewing all the amazing art makes you hungry, then stop afterward at Tazza Cafe on Katonah Avenue.

This bustling joint gives you something to munch on with a drink, from a cup of Joe to tantalizing, eye-widening special hot chocolate. You can't sit inside because of COVID-19, but there are tables outside when it's warm enough. 

Their homemade acai bowl and a cookies and cream hot chocolate is sweet way to end your road trip.
