Some tropical birds are now making Long Island their home.
Monk parrots are Quaker parrots that are often seen in a pet shop, but Long Islanders have also seen them in their backyards.
The parrots have been spotted in Seaford at Seaman’s Park.
“These birds come from Argentina and coming from Argentina, the weather is very much like the weather here, so they're able to adapt to the cold temperatures. Plus they're very industrious, and they build these large nest of sticks, which people see on transformers and ballfields where they spend the evening,” says Marc Marrone, of Parrots of the World.
