A monument that pays tribute to the 351 Dominicans who fought for this country in World War II was unveiled Friday at Bronx Community College.
Bronx leaders and relatives of those who served gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to remember the sacrifices made during the war.
Josephine Infante's father, Juan Infante, has his name engraved on the monument along with the other Dominican men and women who served. Infante says her dad volunteered to serve.
"It was a selfless act," says Infante. "Cause he was almost 40 years old and he volunteered to join the Army."
Councilman Fernando Cabrera says it's a part of history that almost got erased.
The monument is a way to make sure that the sacrifices of the Dominican men and women who fought will never be forgotten.
