A Morris Heights tenant is putting his home back together after it was damaged by severe flooding.
Pieces of the ceiling in Jose Vega's 177th Street basement apartment dropped onto the floor over the weekend, causing it to become an unsanitary mess.
He also says water leaked through the ceiling, despite a superintendent saying the water was off.
Vega says he called his landlord multiple times to tell him about the gaping hole in his ceiling and the water he has had to mop out the door.
He says the landlord told his mother they could rip up a lease they had just signed if they left within a few days.
"We weren't going to do that because he was subjecting us like animals and acting like he could just kick us out," says Vega.
News 12 contacted the landlord, who said he was aware of the problem and that a super went by to fix the pipes.
He added that the ceiling would be also be fixed.
