Morris Heights tenants demand landlord fix University Avenue building
A group of Morris Heights renters rallied on University Avenue Monday to demand their landlord improve living conditions in the building.
It's so bad that local politicians say they plan to file a lawsuit.
One woman says she's found multiple dead rats on her floor. Another family says there are rodents crawling in and out of a hole in a second-floor apartment.
On the third floor, single mother Elena Batista says she found rat feces on her 1-year-old son's clothes on the same day he got an infection.
Many residents accuse their landlord of doing little to address mold, uneven floors, leaks and holes in the building.
The management company, Universal Heights 18, has 17 Department of Buildings violations listed at the address. More than half of them remain open.
The company told News 12 that no one was available to comment due to the Passover holiday.
