One Mott Haven native has captured the attention of thousands over TikTok after a video she uploaded went viral.
She says rats got inside the hood of her car, leaving her with thousands in repair costs.
Clarisa Aleyeto sys her car was parked overnight Tuesday when rats climbed up into her tire and made their way inside the hood of her car. She says this problem is at an all time high because of outdoor dining set ups adding more trash to the neighborhood.
She posted the TikTok just to expose the problem and asked people on the internet for remedies to keep the rats at bay.
The viral video sparked hundreds of replies from others who say they have faced similar issues.
“When the rats first got into my car they ate the engine cover, so tore the engine cover up, so we thought peppermint spray would work and then this time they chewed injector cables it could be anywhere between $3,000 and up,” said Aleyeto.
The New York City Department of Sanitation said in part, if residents have a concern, they would be happy to look into it.
