Montefiore, Mount Sinai nurses agree to new 3-year contract with hospital
The agreement ends the nearly five-week strike by NYSNA, the longest strike in New York City history.
Nurses at Montefiore, The Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside have agreed to a new three-year contract with their respective hospitals.
Mount Sinai says the nurses voted overwhelmingly to ratify the new contracts.
The agreement ends the nearly five-week strike by NYSNA, the longest strike in New York City history.
They say the return-to-work process won't be instantaneous and will evolve over the next several.
Mount Sinai Health System released the following statement:
"The past several weeks have been challenging, emotional, frustrating, and exhausting in different ways for all of us. Moving forward after a strike can bring a wide range of feelings: relief, uncertainty, anxiety, or all of the above. Any of these reactions are understandable. I want to remind us all that health care is built on compassion, and that compassion must extend not only to our patients, but also to one another. Many over the last month have faced hard conversations in public, at work, and at home. We may have differing perspectives, but we are united by our shared mission of caring for our community. I am asking you to listen with empathy, support each other with respect, and commit to our shared culture so that we can emerge stronger than before."
