MTA announces preparations as major snowstorm looms
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is advising customers to take safety precautions as a snowstorm approaches.
The agency says anticipated service changes will be posted on its website. To support winter operations, most subway service will run locally, and crews will salt and clear snow from elevated platforms and station entrances.
Longer buses will be taken out of service and replaced with 40‑foot standard buses. Additional personnel will be on hand to monitor service and clear snow, and bus service will be adjusted based on road conditions.
The Long Island Rail Road and Metro‑North Railroad are monitoring the forecast, while Access‑A‑Ride will continue operating 24/7.
