Members of the Bronx community are mourning the loss of 71-year-old Enriqueta Rivera, who was fatally shot on Thursday in Mott Haven.
The incident took place on East 138th Street and Brook Avenue around 12:30 p.m. when investigators say an argument between two men led to several shots fired - one of the shots struck Rivera in the back.  Her neighbor, Louis, lit a candle outside of her apartment to honor her life, saying that Rivera was much more than just a neighbor across the hall from him.
"We became family... she was an extension of that," said Louis. "Anybody who ever came across her, anyone that had the privilege of knowing her, she was a very sweet lady, very humble, very loving."
The NYPD says it plans to ramp up patrols in the Mott Haven neighborhood after a recent surge in shootings nearby.
