Neighbors: Running sprinkler wastes water at Black Rock Playground

Sprinklers at a Bronx park that are made for summer fun are actually be wasting water by running day and night, according to neighbors in Unionport.
When News 12 first arrived at Black Rock Playground on Saturday, the sprinklers were not in use, but water gushed out for 45 minutes before shutting off on its own.
And after pressing the activation button to turn the water back on, there were inconsistencies. The water first turned off after three minutes, but when activated a second time, the water ran again for at least 20 minutes.
Neighbors say they don't know who's paying for it, but it appears to be a big waste of water. They add that leaves get clogged in the drain.
"On a hot summer day, I could see there's a lot of kids that come into the playground and they go under the sprinklers and they're having great fun -- but to have this going on, it's a disgrace," said one neighbor, Sal Taglia.
Taglia says he's called 311 and contacted the Parks Department about a half-dozen times, but says nothing has been done.
The Parks Department says it inspected the sprinkler last week, but it seemed to have resolved on its own. It was sending a crew to re-inspect it, and said that if it was found to be not working, their plumber will address the issue.
