A new vaccination site opened today in Bed-Stuy at Restoration Plaza.
The city's health commissioner and local officials toured the site, saying it has about 300 vaccines available daily.
"We're looking forward to seeing this particular site start with 300 appointments per day and build up over time to even more than that," says NYC Health Commissioner Dr. David Chokshi.
Chokshi says 1 in 10 Bed-Stuy residents were diagnosed with COVID-19. He says having this site open is much needed.
"It couldn't be at a better place, and it couldn't come at a better time," says Chokshi. "People want to be affirmed that there's a commitment from the administration, from government to try and get vaccines into the arms of people who need it most."
While the city's website said all appointments were full today, Dr. Chokshi says more doses are on the way.
"We expect to get additional supply early next week and when we have that in hand, we will open up additional slots and continue rolling forward with at least 300 appointments per day and hope to go beyond that depending on supply," says Chokshi.
Anyone looking to get a vaccine must make an appointment. The site is open Monday through Friday. You can also call or visit the site and someone will assist in making an appointment.
